The British Columbia government have launched their much anticipated online casino, PlayNow.com.
PlayNow.com will offer casino, bingo, sports lottery and games. Casino games offered include the usual blackjack, roulette, slots and baccarat amongst others. While poker is not currently offered, it is planned to be introduced soon.
The casino is operated by the B.C. Lottery Corporation and becomes North America's first government run online casino.
Despite being available only to BC residents, interest in the casino has been considerable since the site launched last Thursday. Traffic volumes have been so high that that the casino's servers have been overloaded and the site has crashed on a number of occasions.
B.C.L.C. president Michael Graydon expects the casino to generate around $40 million annually for the BC government. Early interest suggests this might be a conservative estimate and highlights the levels of demand that exist for quality gambling products.
