MoneyBookers on the Rise

Published 28 Sep 2009 by Peter Bowman

Payment processor Moneybookers has been recognised for its meteoric growth in the last five years.

The payment processor is one of a number of e-wallets that have emerged in the last few few years on the back of the success of industry pioneer PayPal. It is also one of the many e-wallets whose continued support of online gambling operators while PayPal exited this market in 2006 has helped contribute to significant growth. And while PayPal is now re-entering the online gambling space, with clients including 32Red, BetFred and William Hill, it seems their re-entry is not slowing Moneybookers down.

The company was named at number 6 in The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100 league table which identifies the fastest growing companies in the tech sector.

From its formation in 2001, Moneybookers now processes over €3.5 billion in online transactions annually. Its supporting merchants number over 45,000 including eBay.com, Skype and a whose-who of gambling operators such as Bet365, BetFred, Unibet, Victor Chandler and Ladbrokes. 12,000 new customers register a Moneybookers account each day.

According to the company's CEO Nikolai Riesenkampff, growth is not expected to slow any time soon.

'Our growth rate shows no sign of slowing as we continue to expand, increasing our reach and developing new products.'
