The results of a recent study has revealed UK residents spend almost a billion pound annually on remote gambling.
The study, conducted by the UK Gambling Commission put remote gambling revenue from UK players at £896 million last year, and revealed that despite the fact that the 328 remote gambling operators were licensed by the Commission, the majority of bets were placed with offshore regulated operators.
The study also revealed that 16 million UK player remote betting accounts had been registered, and approximately 6 million of these were thought to be presently active.
In total, the UK's gambling handle was put at £84 billion, with a yield of (player losses) of £9.9 billion - 25% of which is attributable to the National Lottery.
Data used to compile the study were obtained from a wide range of sources including Her Majesty’s Revenue And Customs, the Department for Culture, the Department of Media And Sport and of course industry associations and participants.
