Harrahs Continues to Back Barneys Bill

Published 09 Sep 2010 by Peter Bowman

According to BolaVerde Media Group, US casino giant Harrah's are continuing to lend their support to Barney Frank's HR2267.

BoleVerde Media's latest lobbying spend report revealed that Harrah's were once again the single biggest financial contributor to total lobbying spend directed toward the draft Frank bill.

For Q2 2010 they kicked in $1.02 million out of a total $4.21 million spent by 36 parties lobbying online gaming and related issues.

Other interesting points coming out of the report were:

- Internet gambling supporters spent the most to influence policy during the quarter, accounting for an estimated $3.37 million, or 80.1 percent of total spend. Those neutral on the issue spent an estimated $663,442, or 15.8 percent of total, and those opposed spent an estimated $171,438, or 4.1 percent of total.

- I-gaming is becoming an increasingly important issue among Las Vegas operators as well as tribal interests.

Harrah's support is not surprising given their strong and growing online presence, including the Caesars online brand already launched for European players.
