The Spanish government is planning to open its doors to online gambling operators, and standing at the front of the queue for licenses is Victor Chandler.
News of new regulations, either permitting or banning online gambling seems to constantly flow from EU Member States these days as the European Commission struggles to impose a unified, free trade approach to a currently fragmented market. A number of EEA members are seeking to ban online gambling despite the related EC scrutiny.
Spain, it seems are taking the regulatory approach, with plans to offer licenses to online gambling operators, enabling mainstream terrestrial marketing of net casinos and sportsbooks in Spain for the first time.
With a largely untapped market of 46 million residents, Spain presents an attractive opportunity for large brand gambling operators. One that has been eyeing this market for some time is Victor Chandler, who according to reports in Spanish news services, is standing first in line for a license when the new regime is implemented.
“We are close to gaining a licence, which will make us the first firm to open the doors to internet gambling in the region and allow us to advertise in Spain,” claimed a VC spokesperson. Other operators, like William Hill and Unibet are likewise eager to participate in the licensing process.
