Another sportsbook sponsorship offer for Tiger

Published 17 May 2010 by Peter Bowman

Online gambling operator Bodogbrand.com have offered Tiger Woods a massive 5 year, $100 million endorsement deal.

The offer comes only 2 months since Irish sports betting outfit Paddy Power approached Tiger with a 5 year $75 million deal which the golfer knocked back, and is the third in a series of approaches made by Bodogbrand.com to IMG.

The big carrot that Bodog are dangling in the proposed contract, is a 'no moral judgement clause' - allowing Tiger to carry on off the green as he wishes without jeopardizing the deal. As Bodogbrand.com founder and owner puts it,

‘To be clear, Bodog Brand is not telling Tiger 'all is forgiven'. In Bodog Brand’s eyes, there is nothing to forgive...we feel [we] are the only ones who can extend a deal that will be totally unaffected by any non-golf related activity. We actively encourage and endorse employees and customers alike to 'Play Hard.'

Ayre maintains the offer is a genuine one, but there is undoubtedly an element of publicity chasing about it. It is unlikely that Woods would accept the offer, even with the loss of sponsorship deals from Accenture, AT&T and Gatorade and a bunch of other high profile corporations, and now facing a potential $300 million divorce payout.

But if he is ever going to jump on board with Calvin Ayre, I guess now's about as likely a time as ever.
