It seems online gambling related busts are becoming a weekly event over in China. The latest took place last Thursday according to authorities.
Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau released details of arrests made last week involving an online betting ring operating out of a Haidian teahouse.
19 members of the operation were arrested and cash (450,000 yuan) a laptop and other evidence was seized in raids conducted by the BMPSB's Haiden branch.
It is alleged that bets, usually related to the world cup, were being taken at the teahouse then placed on online gambling sites like 888crown.hk. Cash settlements would then occur after the result - again at the teahouse.
Chinese authorities will be happy to see the end of the world cup, which was expected to trigger an enormous amount of black market betting activity throughout the country.
Maybe now they can go back to devoting police resources to more usual activities, like persecuting Tibetan political dissidents.
