With sponsors jumping off the Tiger bandwagon in droves, Paddy Power have bucked the trend with an offer of their own.
Irish online sports betting company Paddy Power have offered Tiger Woods a lucrative 5 year sponsorship deal worth $75 million over 5 years. The deal has was apparently declined by Woods, but there are suggestions that an improved offer may be made in the near future.
The offer comes at time when a number of Tiger's sponsors have dropped him in the wake of his well publicised infidelities that sent him into hiding last year. Accenture, AT&T and last week Gatorade have all decided that they'll spend their sponsorship dollars elsewhere. And while Nike remains loyal to the embattled Tiger, there certainly is plenty more room on his sponsor roll than there was 6 months ago.
It's a shrewd move from Paddy Power. Sportsbooks and Casinos are not frightened of a little bit of controversy, and their target market, 25-50 males are perhaps a little more forgiving of sexual indiscretions than the broader public. The offer may also trigger a bidding war from rival online gambling operators.
